"Adam Rainer (1899–4 March 1950) is the only person in recorded history ever to have been both a dwarf and a giant.

Rainer was born in Graz, Austria. In 1920 at age 21, he was measured at 1.18 m. Then for unknown reasons he had a dramatic one metre growth spurt so that by 1931 he had reached a height of 2.18 m. As a result of his extreme growth, he became bedridden for the rest of his life. When he died in 1950 he had reached a height of 2.34 m. He grew 117 cm during his adult years."
